After moving to new house my treadmill stopped working, I called Boost Gym Service and Igor came the next day to repair it. He did everything super fast and professionally, explained how I can do maintenance by myself and gave useful tips. The price was fair. Thank you so much, will definitely use the service again. Highly recommend in Palisades Park!

Arthur came and looked at my Treadmill found the issue, and said it needed maintenance, which I knew it did, I asked if he could do it, his office called me back with a total price. Arthur did the maintenance and showed me what he did, the Machine looked like new, he was very pleasant, and would certainly reach out to him again.

Arthur was fantastic. He arrived and let us know the problems we had with the treadmill and showed me each part that needed repair. In the end, we decided not to repair our treadmill, but it was a good experience working with this company.

Boyd Park sees plenty of foot traffic, but the serious stair training in Highland Park happens indoors — StairMaster units tucked into finished basements, Precor SST machines in condo gyms on Raritan Avenue. The housing mix here runs from 1920s colonials to mid-century apartment buildings, and none of it was wired for 200-pound motorized steppers. Hydraulic cylinder leaks and dead console boards are the two calls that dominate the 08904 zip. Add the Raritan River humidity that rolls through between April and October, and electronics in below-grade spaces take a harder beating here than in drier inland towns.

Most of the single-family blocks in 08904 were built between the 1920s and 1950s — finished basements with low ceilings, original 100-amp panels, and concrete floors that stay cold and damp year-round. The apartment complexes clustered near South Second Avenue and Woodbridge Avenue typically run commercial-grade Life Fitness and Matrix steppers under HOA contracts. The residential side is mostly personal StairMaster and NordicTrack units bought during COVID that have never seen a service call. Tight doorways and limited electrical capacity are the two things that complicate most repairs here. Narrow hallways in older colonials on Benner Street or Magnolia Avenue can make moving a 220-pound StairMaster Gauntlet a two-person job — worth factoring in when scheduling.

Common Stair Machine Issues in Highland Park

Hydraulic Cylinder Seal Failure in Damp, Below-Grade Spaces

Highland Park basements sit at 55–60°F year-round with moisture levels that dry-crack the O-rings in hydraulic steppers long before the hour counter says they're due. StairMaster Gauntlet and 8 Series units are the most frequent victims — fluid weeps onto the frame, resistance goes soft, and eventually disappears. Catch it at the leak stage and a seal kit plus labor is $90–$150. Run it dry and the piston scores, adding $200–$300 to the bill. The NordicTrack FS10i sees similar hydraulic degradation when stored below grade — the polyurethane seals in the fluid drive stiffen after two winters and start passing fluid around the piston. A dehumidifier running in the same room buys another 12–18 months between seal replacements.

Console Board Burnout from Shared Circuits

Many homes near Aberdeen Street and the Raritan Avenue corridor are still on 100-amp services that were sized for 1950s loads. Running a NordicTrack Freestrider or Bowflex Max Trainer on the same breaker as central AC causes voltage sags that corrupt or fry the console control board without warning — one session it works, next session it's dark. Replacement boards run $150–$220 depending on model year and are typically sourced within two business days. The symptom before full failure is usually an E6 or E7 error code that clears on restart but returns more frequently over the next two weeks. A dedicated 20-amp circuit fixes the root cause; the board swap without the circuit fix is just buying time.

Step Chain and Drive Belt Wear on Apartment Gym Units

The commercial machines in South Second Avenue building gyms log 6–8 hours of daily use. Precor AMT and Life Fitness StepMill units wear through their step chains and drive belts well ahead of the manufacturer's service intervals under that load. A stretched chain causes step skip and hesitation before it snaps — at the hesitation stage, chain replacement runs $180–$250. Wait for the snap and add the drive sprocket and tensioner to the invoice. Matrix S-Force machines in building gyms develop a distinctive lateral wobble at the top of the step range when the rear axle bearings start to go — that's a $120–$160 bearing replacement if caught before the axle scores the housing.
