Gym Equipment Repair in Hackensack, NJ
Treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowers and strength machines • At home, in building gyms and in studios • ZIP 07601

Hackensack is the seat of Bergen County and its largest city, with about 46,400 residents in the latest Census estimate. It is also a city of apartments: two thirds of its homes sit in buildings with five or more units, and more than a third are in buildings with fifty or more. For a repair company that changes the job. Much of our Hackensack work happens on the upper floors of Prospect Avenue, in the new rental buildings along Main Street, and in the fitness rooms those buildings advertise, with the single-family colonials of Fairmount and the older streets near the river making up the rest.
Boost Gym Service repairs treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes, rowing machines and strength equipment in Hackensack at the address where the machine stands. Our base is in Linden, Union County, about 25 miles south by the Turnpike or Route 17. To book, call (551) 553-3822 with the brand, the model number and a description of what the machine does.
Where we work in Hackensack
The city is small, about four square miles, but its housing is not uniform, and each part of it brings a different kind of call.
- Prospect Avenue. The corridor of high-rise condos and co-ops next to Hackensack University Medical Center is where most of our apartment visits happen. A treadmill in a 15th floor apartment arrives through a freight elevator and a service entrance, and it leaves the same way if it ever has to. When you book, tell us whether your building asks for a visitor pass, a service elevator reservation or a time window for contractors. We have done it before and we plan the visit around it.
- Downtown and Main Street. The last few years added large rental buildings to the center: Current on River with 254 apartments, the 14 story building at The Brick, and Print House, a 700 unit complex on the site of the former Record newspaper. These buildings market their own gyms, and the treadmills in those rooms work many hours a day. We service both the apartments and the fitness rooms.
- Fairmount and the single-family streets. Fairmount is the section of colonial-style houses in the north of the city. Here the machine is usually in a finished basement or a spare bedroom, and the questions are about power, moisture and getting a replacement belt or deck in through the stairs.
- North Hackensack. The retail corridor along Hackensack Avenue and Route 4, around The Shops at Riverside, holds the studios: Life Time Studio with more than 150 classes a week, and Orangetheory on Hackensack Avenue. Commercial cardio equipment in studios and hotels is part of what we repair, on the manufacturers' commercial warranty terms described below.
Apartments, co-ops and building gyms
Sixty three percent of Hackensack homes are rented, and most of them are in multi-unit buildings. The repair itself does not change in an apartment, but three things around it do.
Noise is the first. A treadmill belt that thumps on every revolution, an elliptical that knocks at the bottom of the stride, or a bike that clicks once per pedal turn travels through a concrete floor to the neighbor below. Those are among the most common complaints we hear from Prospect Avenue, and most of them are mechanical: a belt that has taken the shape of the rollers in the box, a loose crank, a dry bearing. They are also the faults that get fixed in a single visit when we know the model in advance.
Power is the second. Apartment outlets are shared and often on the same circuit as the kitchen or the laundry closet. The treadmill manuals are consistent on this: Sole wants a grounded 120 volt, 15 amp outlet with only the treadmill on the circuit, Precor's home manual requires a dedicated 15 amp circuit, and Peloton allows no extension cords or adapters. A treadmill that trips the breaker or shows a speed higher than the belt reaches is often telling you about the outlet, not about the motor.
Access is the third. Building fitness rooms are usually run by the management company, and commercial machines carry commercial warranties. Life Fitness lists 3 years of labor on its commercial treadmill lines in the table valid from April 1, 2026, and Precor's labor warranty on commercial cardio equipment is 3 years from March 30, 2026 when the machine was bought for commercial use. Life Fitness also states that a consumer product placed in a commercial setting voids the warranty, which matters for buildings that furnished the gym with home models. If the machine is inside its labor warranty, the manufacturer's service is the first call. We take everything after that.
Older homes, basements and moisture
Hackensack is an old city by New Jersey standards. Fifteen percent of its housing was built before 1940 and almost half between 1950 and 1979. Many streets still use a combined sewer system where rainwater and waste share the same pipes, and the city has said plainly that during heavy rains this can cause backups into basements; its 2026 sewer work covered the blocks between Central Avenue and Passaic Street.
A basement that has flooded once is a basement where the treadmill's electronics have been wet once. The manufacturers draw the line clearly. NordicTrack's manual says to keep the treadmill indoors, away from moisture and dust. Horizon rules out any location that is not temperature-controlled and says failure to comply will void the warranty. Sole's 2026 warranty is void if the treadmill is not in a climate-controlled, insulated environment. If your machine stood in water, tell us when you call: the first question is whether the control board and the motor controller survived, and that decides whether a repair makes sense.
Older wiring brings the other common call. iFIT, the maker of NordicTrack and ProForm, notes that a treadmill may trip GFCI outlets and tells owners to move it to an outlet on a dedicated circuit. Horizon and Landice ask for a dedicated 15 amp circuit and rule out GFCI outlets. In a pre-war house in Fairmount that can mean the difference between a repair and an electrician.
Parking and access for the visit
We take care of our own parking. Hackensack's municipal lots and decks are paid through the ParkMobile app, and on streets marked Resident Only the city code exempts service vehicles while repairs are being done in the area. For Prospect Avenue buildings with a visitor lot or a loading area, tell us at booking and we will use it. When the streets are snow covered, cars must be moved off them under the city's snow ordinance, so a winter visit after a storm is planned around that.
What we repair in Hackensack
Treadmills are the largest share: slipping or drifting belts, tripped breakers, dark or frozen consoles, incline faults, error codes, worn decks and drive belts, drive motors and control boards. Ellipticals come next, mostly for noise, resistance that no longer changes, pedal arm play and console errors. Exercise bikes, from Peloton and NordicTrack to Schwinn, Echelon and Keiser, come in for resistance faults, clicking per pedal stroke, loose cranks and sensors that stop reading. We also service rowing machines, steppers, strength machines with cables and pulleys, and we assemble, disassemble and move treadmills and ellipticals between rooms and floors.
We are an independent service company. We are not affiliated with or authorized by any of the manufacturers named on this site, and while a machine is inside its warranty the manufacturer's own service is the right first call.
