Gym Equipment Repair in Jersey City, NJ
Treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowers and strength machines • In apartments, houses and building gyms • Downtown, Newport, Journal Square, The Heights, Greenville, Bergen-Lafayette, West Side

Jersey City is the seat of Hudson County and home to about 294,000 people in the Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 survey. Its housing runs to two extremes. More than half of its homes sit in buildings with five or more units, and almost three in ten are in buildings with fifty or more, most of them the towers along the Hudson. At the same time, nearly a third of the city's homes are in two, three and four unit buildings, and 29 percent were built before 1940. A repair visit in Jersey City can mean a freight elevator in a waterfront tower or a narrow stair in a brownstone, and the visit is planned differently for each.
Boost Gym Service repairs treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes, rowing machines and strength equipment in Jersey City at the address where the machine stands. Our base is in Linden, Union County, about 16 miles away by the New Jersey Turnpike and its Newark Bay Extension. To book, call (551) 553-3822 with the brand, the model number and a description of what the machine does.
Where we work in Jersey City
The city covers about 15 square miles between the Hudson and the Hackensack, and each part of it brings a different kind of call.
- Downtown and the waterfront. The redeveloped waterfront around Exchange Place is mostly residential towers, hotels and offices: 99 Hudson Street alone has 79 stories and 781 condominiums. A treadmill on a high floor comes in through a service entrance and a freight elevator, so tell us at booking whether your building asks for a visitor pass, a service elevator reservation or a contractor time window. Behind the towers are the brownstone districts, Paulus Hook, Van Vorst Park, Hamilton Park and Harsimus Cove, where the machine sits up a flight of stairs or in a garden level room.
- Newport. The planned waterfront community, built on the old Erie Lackawanna rail yards, is lined with more than 16 apartment complexes around Newport Centre, and most of those buildings run their own fitness centers. We service both the apartments and the building gyms.
- Journal Square. The district around the Journal Square Transportation Center is where some of the city's newest towers stand. Journal Squared, at 615 Pavonia Avenue, is three towers with 1,840 rental apartments, and a broken treadmill there is an apartment visit with the same elevator and access questions as on the waterfront.
- The Heights. The north end of the city sits on the Palisades above Hoboken, and most of its houses are two and three family homes. Here the treadmill or the bike is usually on an upper floor reached by an interior stair, and the question is whether a replacement belt, deck or motor fits up that stair.
- Greenville, Bergen-Lafayette and the West Side. Greenville, at the southern edge of the city, mixes blocks of older single-family houses with newer buildings. Bergen-Lafayette has rows of brownstones and Victorian houses next to converted lofts. The West Side runs to the Hackensack River and is home to Saint Peter's University and Kean Jersey City.
Towers, walk-ups and building gyms
Seventy two percent of Jersey City homes are rented. In a tower or a walk-up the repair itself does not change, but three things around it do.
Noise is the first. A treadmill belt that thumps on every revolution, an elliptical that knocks at the bottom of the stride, or a bike that clicks once per pedal turn carries through the floor to the neighbor below. Most of these noises are mechanical: a belt that has taken the shape of the rollers, a loose crank, a dry bearing. Faults like these can often be fixed in a single visit when the model is known in advance.
Power is the second. Apartment outlets are shared and often on the same circuit as the kitchen or the laundry. The treadmill manuals are consistent on this: Sole wants a grounded 120 volt, 15 amp outlet with only the treadmill on the circuit, Precor's home manual requires a dedicated 15 amp circuit, and Peloton allows no extension cords or adapters. A treadmill that trips the breaker or shows a speed higher than the belt reaches is often telling you about the outlet, not about the motor.
The building gym is the third. Building fitness rooms are usually run by the management company, and commercial machines carry commercial warranties. Life Fitness lists 3 years of labor on its commercial treadmill lines in the table valid from April 1, 2026, and Precor's labor warranty on commercial cardio equipment is 3 years from March 30, 2026 when the machine was bought for commercial use. Life Fitness also states that a consumer product placed in a commercial setting voids the warranty, which matters for buildings that furnished the gym with home models. If the machine is inside its labor warranty, the manufacturer's service is the first call. We take everything after that.
Pre-war houses, basements and wiring
Almost 40,000 Jersey City homes were built before 1940, and the city is drained by a combined sewer. The Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority explains that the same pipe carries stormwater and waste water, and that during heavy rainfalls the line becomes inundated with the combined volume. For a machine in a ground floor or basement room, that is a reason to look at where it stands.
The manufacturers draw the line clearly on moisture. NordicTrack's manual says to keep the treadmill indoors, away from moisture and dust. Horizon rules out any location that is not temperature-controlled and says failure to comply will void the warranty. Sole's 2026 warranty is void if the treadmill is not in a climate-controlled, insulated environment. If your machine stood in water, tell us when you call: the first question is whether the control board and the motor controller survived, and that decides whether a repair makes sense.
Older wiring raises the other question. iFIT, the maker of NordicTrack and ProForm, notes that a treadmill may trip GFCI outlets and tells owners to move it to an outlet on a dedicated circuit. Horizon and Landice ask for a dedicated 15 amp circuit and rule out GFCI outlets. In a house in The Heights or Bergen-Lafayette that can be the difference between a repair and an electrician.
Parking and access for the visit
We take care of our own parking. In many areas of Jersey City a permit is needed to park for more than 2 hours, and under the zone permit rules any vehicle may park in a zone for 2 hours, except in Resident Only zones and reserved permit areas. For a longer job the city code provides a daily contractor permit for repair work on a residential home. For a tower with a loading dock or a garage, tell us at booking and we will use it. In winter, the city asks that all vehicles be removed from designated snow emergency routes, so a visit after a storm is planned around that.
What we repair in Jersey City
Treadmills: slipping or drifting belts, tripped breakers, dark or frozen consoles, incline faults, error codes, worn decks and drive belts, drive motors and control boards. Ellipticals: noise, resistance that no longer changes, pedal arm play and console errors. Exercise bikes, from Peloton and NordicTrack to Schwinn, Echelon and Keiser: resistance faults, clicking per pedal stroke, loose cranks and sensors that stop reading. We also service rowing machines, steppers, strength machines with cables and pulleys, and commercial equipment from Life Fitness, Precor, Matrix and Technogym in building gyms, and we disassemble, move and reassemble treadmills and ellipticals between rooms and floors.
We are an independent service company. We are not affiliated with or authorized by any of the manufacturers named on this site, and while a machine is inside its warranty the manufacturer's own service is the right first call.
