Precor builds most of its equipment for health clubs, and a lot of it ends up in homes, condo fitness rooms, hotel gyms and offices. When a Precor stops, it usually says something first: a code on the console, a belt that hesitates under your foot, a squeak from the ramp of an EFX. Boost Gym Service repairs Precor treadmills, EFX ellipticals, AMTs, bikes and strength equipment in homes and building gyms across 11 New Jersey counties.

Everything technical below comes from Precor's own manuals, maintenance guides, error code guide and warranty statements, and from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Precor has belonged to Peloton since April 2021, but warranty service and parts still run through Precor's own support.

Which Precor do you have

The difference decides both the warranty and the parts. Home cardio is the Energy Series 200 line and the Precision Series 400 line, with treadmills such as the TRM 243 and TRM 445 and ellipticals such as the EFX 225 and EFX 425. Commercial cardio is the 500, 600, 700 and 800 lines: TRM treadmills, EFX ellipticals, the AMT, UBK and RBK bikes and the StairClimber. Commercial strength includes the Resolute, Discovery and Vitality lines.

Before you call anyone, find the serial number. On a treadmill Precor puts it on the label near the power cord entry and on the frame under the left rear corner; on an elliptical, at the rear near the on/off switch or under the hood.

Precor error codes: what the console is telling you

Precor publishes an error code guide for its cardio equipment, and its consoles keep an error log: on a home TRM 445 or 243 under Settings, Information, Error Log, with the date and the odometer reading for each code. Precor also warns that not every failure produces a code.

The P31 console guide gives owners a plain rule. For codes 00 to 09, 11 to 16 and 50, turn the machine off and on, twice, and call a technician if the message returns. Codes 10, 20 to 23, 26 to 28 and 32 go straight to a technician. Codes 40, 42 and 44 to 46 are logged and the workout can continue. Precor's explanations of the common ones:

  • 27, motor current too high. Precor names a worn running belt and deck as the most likely cause and a faulty drive motor as less likely. The repair is a new belt with the deck flipped or replaced.
  • 28, electronics temperature too high. Most often a cooling fan or heat sink clogged with dust; Precor's steps also include the belt and deck.
  • 16, input voltage too low. Usually brownouts, but also wiring too thin or too long, or neutrals shared between outlets.
  • 22, 23 and 26 on home treadmills. Speed sensor faults: dust in the optical sensor on the 400 Series, the reed switch and magnet on the 200 Series, or worn motor brushes.
  • 24 on TRM 200 and 400 models. The belt speeds up under the exerciser's weight, most often on a new, low friction belt and deck at incline. Step off the belt to let it stop.
  • 40, no lift motion. Most often a blown lift fuse or a jammed lift motor; on an EFX or AMT, also a dead battery.
  • 30 to 33. Lost communication between the console and the lower board, most often the cable between them.

Precor treadmills: belt, deck and the lubrication rule

Generic treadmill advice is wrong for Precor. The TRM 445 and 243 manual says never to add any foreign substance to the underside of the running belt: it is designed to move over the deck without additional lubrication, and excessive friction or wear is a reason to contact Precor. If someone offers to spray silicone under a Precor belt, say no.

Precor asks for cleaning instead: mild soap and water before and after workouts, no acidic cleaners, which void the warranty, and frequent vacuuming under the unit. The 2026 commercial maintenance guide adds a monthly towel cleaning of the underside of the belt and the top of the deck, with the belt at 1 mph and the user standing on the side rails.

Centering is an owner job. On the home models you run the belt at 3 mph, watch it from the rear, then switch off and turn only the right rear bolt with the supplied hex key: a quarter turn clockwise if the belt has moved right, counterclockwise if it has moved left. Never more than a quarter turn at a time, because overtightening can damage the treadmill. A belt torn or frayed by poor alignment is not covered by the warranty.

For a slipping belt, the commercial guide says to tighten both bolts evenly, a quarter turn at a time, until the slipping stops, without overtightening. If small turns do not cure it, stop there and have the belt, deck and drive checked.

EFX ellipticals, AMTs and bikes

Precor launched the first EFX elliptical in 1995. Its ellipticals and bikes have their own short list.

  • A squeak from a new EFX. A protective sheath on the roller arm wheels squeaks until it wears off. Precor calls this normal and asks for about ten hours of use before you call support.
  • A squeak from an older EFX. Clean the wheel track, apply a thin coat of mineral oil and wipe off the excess. Too much oil collects dirt and can damage the ramp.
  • Power on home EFX models. Bypassing the three prong plug with an adapter, or using a power transformer, will void the warranty in Precor's words.
  • A dark console on a commercial EFX, AMT or bike with the P31 console. These are self powered: the console wakes when someone starts moving and shuts down if a minimum pace is not kept. Code 46 means low battery voltage.
  • AMT belts. Code 78 shows Belts must be changed soon; code 79 shows Belts change required and blocks new workouts.
  • Code 50 on ellipticals, AMTs and bikes. Too much brake current, most often damaged wiring between the lower board and the brake magnet.

Outlet and placement: what Precor requires

The home TRM 445 and 243 need a dedicated, grounded circuit, 15 amps at minimum and 20 amps recommended, with no adapter; improper grounding could void the warranty. A commercial treadmill must be on its own 20 amp individual branch circuit, shared at most with one Precor PVS screen. Precor's guide ties error 16 to shared neutrals and undersized wiring, so in a building gym the diagnosis of power codes starts at the wall.

Precor equipment is for indoor use on a solid, level surface, and the commercial guidance rules out damp or wet locations and temperature extremes. Precor recommends 79 inches of clear space behind a treadmill and 20 inches on the other sides.

Precor warranty: home, commercial, and what voids it

Home lines, per Precor's 2026 summary: 5 years on motor and parts for the 200 line, 10 years for the 400 line, 3 years on the console and 1 year of labor for both. On the frame Precor's own pages disagree, lifetime on precor.com and 10 years on Precor At Home. Commercial machines sold into a home carry 10 years on parts, including the running belt, deck and drive motor, 3 years on the console and 1 year of labor.

Commercial use: labor is 3 years on Precor commercial cardio and strength bought for commercial use, effective March 30, 2026, and the 500 to 800 cardio lines carry 7 years on the frame and 5 on the treadmill drive motor. On parts the current documents differ, 3 years in the summary and 5 in the statement for machines made and sold after March 30, 2026, so read the one that shipped with yours.

Conditions: the warranty covers only the original purchaser and does not transfer, and Precor asks to be told within 30 days of finding a defect. The warranty for commercial equipment in a home applies only if it has been serviced by a Precor Authorized Service Provider. It excludes wear on running belts, decks and drive belts, non original parts, wiring not to code, skipped maintenance and missing serial tags.

Precor's route for warranty service starts with the dealer who sold the machine, then Precor Technical Support, which refers you to an authorized service provider. While your Precor is inside its labor warranty, use that route. We are an independent company and take the work after it: machines out of warranty, machines bought used, and wear the warranty does not cover. Precor sells parts to owners by serial number through PrecorConnect.com.

Precor in building gyms, hotels and offices

Precor sells to clubs, hotels, corporate fitness rooms and multi family residential buildings. The home warranty for commercial cardio does not cover any commercial setting, and Precor names multi family housing, hospitality, corporate wellness and personal training studios. Equipment bought for commercial use gets the commercial terms instead.

Precor puts maintenance on the owner. Its 2026 cardio guide makes the owner or facility operator solely responsible for regular maintenance, says worn parts must be replaced at once or the machine taken out of service, and allows only manufacturer supplied or approved parts. Many units have a status light at the base: pulsing blue means maintenance is due, yellow means a fault.

For strength equipment, Precor's Resolute guide asks for cables to be inspected daily, replaced at the first sign of wear and all replaced once a year, because a worn cable can fail suddenly. One recall applies to gyms: in December 2024 Precor and the CPSC recalled about 834 Resolute Cable Multi-Station units, model RMS905, because the pop pin can fail to engage and let the pulley carriage drop. The remedy is a free on site repair arranged by Precor, so contact Precor first.

I am so impressed with this service company! I was having an issue with my Precor elliptical and called late in the day on Saturday and they were able to have a repairman come the very next day. He came on the early side within the window frame that they gave me and he was very knowledgeable and helpful. His name was Nick, and he was fantastic! Very happy with this company. Reliable, fast, and knowledgeable!

Fixed and tuned up my Precor treadmill. The tread was “slipping”. They came promptly and right on time (and they were courteous). Not cheap at all but if the fix works and lasts for years, then will be well worth it for this expensive treadmill.

Are you Precor customer service? What is the Precor support number?▼
No. Boost Gym Service is an independent repair company, not affiliated with or authorized by Precor or Peloton. Precor's FAQ sends warranty questions first to the selling dealer, then to Precor Technical Support at 1-888-665-4404. We do paid repairs on Precor equipment out of warranty or bought second-hand.
Do you repair Precor ellipticals?▼
Yes, home and commercial EFX ellipticals and the AMT. A squeak in the first ten hours on a new EFX is normal according to Precor. If noise stays, or the console, incline or resistance fails, call us.

Yes, cardio and strength. Check first whether the machine is inside Precor's commercial labor warranty, 3 years for equipment bought for commercial use from March 30, 2026.
Should I lubricate my Precor treadmill?▼
No. Precor's manual says never to add any substance to the underside of the running belt. Clean the belt and deck instead, and have excessive friction or wear checked.
What does error 27 mean on a Precor treadmill?▼
Motor current too high. Precor names a worn running belt and deck as the most likely cause, a faulty drive motor as less likely.
